In November 2019, the Australian Government launched the Global Talent Independent Program (GTI), to attract highly skilled individuals for a simplified and prioritised permanent residency visa process.
The program's focus is to attract worldwide exceptional talent to increase Australia's competitiveness in innovation.
Even with the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, this program is still a focus and is being processed as normal by the Department of Home Affairs.
Eligibility
To be eligible, candidates must have an "internationally recognised record of exceptional and outstanding achievement” in one of the target areas described below:
• Agricultural technology
• Advanced space and manufacturing
• Financial technology
• Energy and mining technology
• Medical technology
• Cyber security
• Quantum information, advanced digital, data science and ICT
In addition, candidates must:
• Demonstrate the ability to meet the salary threshold of AUD153,600* or
• Have recently completed a doctorate or master's degree in one of the target areas with excellent academic performance.
Process
To be considered for this program, you must have your Expression of Interest accepted as well as having the endorsement of an Australian individual or organisation with a national reputation in your field of expertise.
Besides, all requirements for permanent residency visa Distinguished Talent must be satisfied, such as health, character and many others.
